Ari stiffened, closing her eyes and her breath caught. She had to tell him. Of course she'd tell him what it was like growing up with Severus Snape, but she had to tell him the truth. She took a breath. "He never much liked being called 'dad' or 'daddy' or 'father'. He much preferred I call him Severus. Though sometimes I'd just shorten it to Sev. When I was little it was always Daddy. He was the best father I could ever ask for. It was only..." She choked on her words for a moment. "...when he told the truth, that I had to start calling him Severus." Scarlette closed her eyes when she realized she was shaking. She had to tell this all to Draco. She had to. But she didn't know how to. She took a breath trying to calm her nerves. "I was about eight or nine. Severus called me into what was at the time his study..." She looked over at the bookshelf on the wall. "...this room now." Ari closed her eyes again, trying to remember it all, and trying to fight down her fears and not feel Draco's gaze. "He told me he had important things to tell me. He told me...that I was a pure blood, and that he was not." She paused for a second. "Eileen Prince, his mother, had married a muggle, Tobias Snape. He was a halfblood. I asked him 'then, Daddy, how can I be a pure blood?'. I didn't like his answer, and I've been denying it my whole life." She opened her eyes again, staring at the flames. "All I know...all I care to know and wish I didn't know...is that I am pure blood. And that Severus Snape...adopted me as a baby." Her eyes grew intensely fierce as she stared at the fire. "But he was the only father I ever knew. And the only one I'd ever wish to have." She bit her lip, afraid of what Draco was going to say...if he even would believe her.

Draco sat momentarily, waiting for Ari’s reply. She seemed to tense and grow increasingly uncomfortable. He listened to her tell him of her father. A grimace appearing on his face. He couldn’t imagine any father telling their child to call them by their first name. It was only seconds later when he found out that Severus wasn’t really her biological father. He became increasingly irritated. “What?! How can you be adopted. I’ve known you for a little over ten years and I’m just finding this out. You lied to me. For all I know you could be related to some muggle loving disgrace of a family like the Weasley‘s.” His face became hard as he stared at her. His anger getting the best of him.

Ari bit her lip harder, trying not to allow tears to surface, but they came anyway. She started crying and she couldn't help it. "I'm so sorry, Draco. I wanted to tell you, but I couldn't. He wouldn't let me for the longest time. Told me I was safer if I didn't tell anyone." Her eyes pleaded with his, and she looked away, curling into a little ball on the couch by pulling her knees up to her chin and wrapping her arms around her legs. Tears continued to fall and she buried her face in her knees. "I'm so sorry." Her words came out soft. She had no will left in her. Normally she wouldn't ever dare cry in front of Draco, but she couldn't help it. This was exactly the thing she was afraid of.

"Ari we've been friends for years. I can hardly think that something Snape said would keep you from telling me. We've been engaged for two years! Two! I'm not even sure who I'm with anymore. My parents are going to kill me if they find out." He stood, his eyes boring into her. It was hard to sit there and watch her cry. But he thought that what she did was much worse. "Sorry doesn't fix anything Scarlette."

"I know." She whispered. She couldn't do anything. She couldn't change the past. And this was the worst reaction she could've imagined. It's what she'd always been dreading. "I know I can't fix it with 'sorry'. But I am sorry. I can only take a bit of comfort in knowing that Severus would not have taken me in for just anyone. It had to be someone important to him." She wiped her eyes with the back of her right hand, but she didn't look up, instead turning her head facing away from him. She couldn't look at him. And she knew he probably didn't want to be anywhere near her.

Draco sat down, his elbows resting on his knees and his head in his hands. He couldn't believe it. He didn't even want to look at her. He felt betrayed, and all his trust in her seemed to be gone for the moment. They sat in silence for what seemed like several minutes. The only sounds being heard were of Ari's sobs and of the fireplace popping and cracking. "I think," he said his voice low. "That we need to keep this between the two of us. I do not need my mother and father or any of their friends finding out about this. At least until-" He stopped momentarily, "if you ever find out who your parents are and they're not blood traitors then we can tell them. But until then it stays between us. Alright?"

Scarlette nodded her head. Her sobbing slowed just a bit. She tried to steady her breathing, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand again. "I am sorry, Draco." She whispered. "I probably should try to figure out who they are...the only place I can think that might have the information is in this house. Somewhere. Severus never told me." She had calmed herself, but she still couldn't look at him, she kept her arms wrapped around her legs, and she stared at the fire, trying to think of where to look.

Draco got up from his chair and went to sit next to his fiance. Placing a hand over hers. "If Snape hid something in here. It will probably take forever to find it. It's not like he'd just leave it lying about." He said, his eyes sweeping over the living room. He wasn't even sure if he wanted to find out who her family was. He hoped that if they did ever discover the truth it would be something he wanted to hear. He didn't want them to be some sort of disgrace like the McKinnon's or the Weasley's.

Scarlette gave a sad little smile at his touch. It gave her a little reassurance. "He spent most of his time in this room. It's the first place I'd look. Though I don't even know what we'd be looking for." She eyed the bookshelf curiously. "I'm not sure I even want to know, but I know I should." She bit her lip, out of nervous habit.

"Even if it were in this room I'm sure he had it under some wards so people wouldn't be able to find it." He stated, his hand still comfortably on Ari's. "I think I have to know. I need to know who you are. Who your family is." Draco said, placing his hands back in his lap as he inhaled deeply. "I'm sure with both of our talents we could find it if it's here."
